Terms

Terms of use.

These terms cover everything Via Nostalgia runs: vianostalgia.com, Adventures, Events, Revival, Studio and our connector for AI assistants. They are written to be read. Via Nostalgia (operator details in the Impressum) runs them.

The services

  • Adventures (adventures.vianostalgia.com): walk to old places, stamp a passport, make and share walking adventures, send photos and corrections.
  • Events (events.vianostalgia.com): publish heritage events and invite people to come.
  • Revival (revival.vianostalgia.com): volunteer projects that restore old places and need hands.
  • Studio (studio.vianostalgia.com): make videos on your phone or computer.
  • The connector for AI assistants (adventures.vianostalgia.com/mcp): lets Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants look up our public places, adventures, events and projects.

All of them are free. We don't sell tickets, stays or bookings through them, and we show no ads.

Your account

You can use most of Adventures, Studio and the connector without an account. You need one to keep your passport on more than one device, to publish adventures, events or projects, to sign up for an event or a project, and to send photos or reports.

  • One Via Nostalgia account works across Adventures, Events, Revival and Studio. You sign in with a passkey or a one-time email link.
  • You must be at least 10 years old to make an account. If you are under 16, a parent or guardian must agree first, and give any consent we ask for on your behalf.
  • Keep your devices and email safe. What happens in your account is your responsibility, unless someone got in through no fault of yours. Tell us straight away if you think someone else is using it.
  • Give a credit name you have a right to use. Don't pretend to be someone else, or an organisation you don't speak for.

Using the services well

Please don't:

  • publish anything unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexual, violent, or misleading;
  • publish other people's personal details, or recognisable photos of people, without their permission;
  • upload photos, music or text you have no right to share;
  • advertise, spam, or use events and projects to sell things that have nothing to do with them;
  • stamp places you have not visited by faking your location, or game the leagues and XP;
  • scrape the services in bulk, overload them, get round our limits, or break into anything;
  • send people onto private land, closed sites or protected archaeological sites, or encourage damage to heritage.

Walking and going to places

Adventures and events take you outside. Walks are suggestions, not checked routes. Paths, buildings and opening times change. Look after yourself and others, follow local rules and signs, and check access with the place. Some archaeological sites are shown at an approximate position on purpose, to protect them.

Events and volunteer projects are run by their organisers, not by us. The organiser is responsible for the event or project: its details, its safety, any insurance, and how they treat the people who come. Confirm the details with them.

What you publish

What you make stays yours. That includes your adventures, notes, photos, events, projects and Studio videos.

When you publish something in one of our services, you give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store it, show it, and adapt its format (for example resize a photo or show a listing as a card) in our apps, on our websites, in shared links and previews, and through the connector for AI assistants. The licence lasts while it is published. It ends when you delete it or your account, except where others have already copied it under the terms below, and except for photos published on Wikimedia Commons.

  • Adventures you make are private, open to anyone with the link, or public, as you choose. Someone who saves or copies a public adventure keeps their copy.
  • Photos you take on site and choose to publish are licensed CC BY-SA 4.0 with your credit name and may go to Wikimedia Commons. That licence can't be withdrawn once a photo is published there.
  • Old photos from your family archive are shown in Adventures only, with your permission. You confirm that you or your family may share them.
  • Events and projects you publish are public once we approve them, with the organiser name and public contact details you give.
  • Studio media stays on your device. You are responsible for having the right to use any music, footage or photos in your videos.

When you publish, you confirm that you may share it and that the details are true to the best of your knowledge.

Checks, reports and removal

  • We check every photo, place, correction, event and volunteer project before it goes public.
  • Anyone signed in can report a public adventure, event or project. A public adventure with three reports is hidden from Community until we look at it.
  • We may edit the format of, hide or remove anything that breaks these terms or the law, and we tell you when we do, unless the law or safety says otherwise. You can ask us to look again by writing to us.
  • To report something unlawful, use the report button in the app or write to hello@vianostalgia.com with a link and the reason. We act quickly on clear reports.

AI answers

Some answers are written by AI, and AI can be wrong.

  • In Adventures, "Ask a guide" answers a question about a place with an AI model, using only that place's own facts and its neighbours. It can still make mistakes. Check anything that matters.
  • The connector for AI assistants is read only: it looks things up and changes nothing. Your assistant (for example Claude or ChatGPT) decides when to use it and writes the final answer, and the assistant's own terms apply to your conversation with it. Please keep the links and credits our answers carry.

Other people's content

  • Photos come from Wikimedia Commons, Europeana and contributors. Each keeps its own author and licence, which we show where it appears.
  • Maps and many places come from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). Map styling by OpenFreeMap and OpenMapTiles.
  • Facts come from public sources such as Wikidata, Wikipedia and official heritage lists, and we link to them. We check what we can, but sources can be wrong.
  • Our drawings, stamps, adventures we wrote, and the design of our apps belong to Via Nostalgia. You may share screenshots and your own videos and recaps for personal use.

A free service, as it is

We offer the services for free and as they are. We work to keep them running and correct, but we can't promise they are always available, complete or free of errors. We may change, pause or stop a service or a feature. If we stop a service you have an account in, we tell you in good time where we can, so you can download your data first.

Liability

We are fully liable for damage caused on purpose or by gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and where the German Product Liability Act applies. For slight negligence we are liable only if we breach a duty that is essential for the service to work and that you can rely on, and then only for the damage that is typical and foreseeable for a free service like this one. Otherwise we are not liable. This also covers people who work for us.

Ending

  • You can stop at any time. Delete your account in Adventures under Settings: it closes your one account in Adventures, Events, Revival and Studio, with 7 days to change your mind. Or write to us.
  • We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms or the law. We tell you why, unless the law or safety says otherwise.

Changes

We may update these terms as the services change. If a change matters for you, we tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.

Law and contact

German law applies. If you are a consumer living in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of that country. Questions, reports or complaints: hello@vianostalgia.com or the contact form. How we handle your data: our privacy notice.

Draft. Last updated 29 October 2026.
